Community Drive, Inc. founder Patricia Carver brings a lifetime of heartfelt commitment to social justice. This dedication began five decades ago with the birth of her brother and the subsequent recognition that his being “special” meant his being set apart and separate. She has headed local advocacy agencies, statewide leadership and development programs and coordinated the national Center for Self-Determination.
In Michigan, Carver co-founded the Partners for Freedom; MI SIBS (Michigan Supporting and Including Brothers and Sisters); the statewide Academy on Self-Determination and coordinated the initial competency based leadership training program – Partners in Policymaking. In 2014, Carver chaired the National Sibling Leadership Network. Previously, she coordinated international communications efforts and resource development for the Center for Self-Determination where she edited several publications and guidebooks; developed coursework and training materials; provided hands-on budgeting, support brokering and person-directed planning instruction in 22 states; implemented six national Immersion Learning Events and the 2008 International Conference on Self-Determination.
For 40 years, Pat Carver established expertise at person-centered planning, supporting the importance of belonging, building support circles and strengthening individual capacities to create community.
