Cristian Mendoza is a Mexican attorney and was appointed as a Disability Rights Fellow at Disability Rights International for 2020-2021. He has worked as an attorney in private practice and as a human rights defender of people with disabilities. Cristian helped establish the Legal Group for Equality and Inclusion, a private law firm operated by and for attorneys with disabilities in Mexico. On behalf of DRI, Cristian has contributed to preparing, analyzing, and reviewing legal advocacy papers and supporting DRI litigation on the rights of children and adults with disabilities detained in residential institutions. He has helped DRI identify and challenge Mexican laws and practices that violate the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the American Convention on Human Rights, and the Convention Against Torture.
