| Last year, the FDA banned the use of shock devices as "treatment" for people with disabilities at the Judge Rotenberg Center in Massachusetts but the fight is not over - the Center continues to use the shock devices on people with disabilities at the facility, and just challenged the ban in the US Court of Appeals. Disability Rights International (DRI) has been committed to stopping the use of these shock devices for over a decade. DRI was able to get the United Nations to declare this to be torture not treatment. DRI filed a torture case with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, which called for an immediate ban on the procedure. DRI Executive Director Eric Rosenthal appeared on NBC's The Today Show to call for an end to this barbaric practice. Watch the Today Show segment here. |
