Paul Steven Miller (May 4, 1961 – October 19, 2010)
It is with great sadness that we at Disability Rights International (DRI) mourn the death of Paul Steven Miller, a former DRI board member and a legend in the disability rights movement in the United States. Paul died at his home on October 19, 2010, following a long illness, surrounded by his family and friends.

Washington, DC -- April 29, 2010 -- Mental Disability Rights International (MDRI) has found children and adults with disabilities tortured and abused at a “special needs” residential facility in Massachusetts and has filed an “urgent appeal” with the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture to demand the United States government end the torture immediately.

DRI has won the first ever precautionary measures from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to protect the lives of people with disabilities detained in the the state-run Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital in Paraguay.
“The substantial changes in mental health practice and policy accomplished by this advocacy is one of the foremost successes in the use of precautionary measures in the inter-American human rights system.”
